Services - Embryo Vitrification

Vitrification - a technique for freezing of embryos.  The technique provides a better post-thaw survival rate, along with higher pregnancy and live birth rates than traditional techniques.  For example, by adding a cryoprotectant, water can be cooled until it hardens like glass without any ice crystals forming. This is important in the embryology world because ice crystal formation can be very damaging to frozen embryos.

Benefits of Embryo Vitrification to the Mare owner

  • Embryos can be stored in the event of loss of the mare
  • Embryos can be collected outside of usual breeding season
  • Late foaling mares can store embryo for transfer early in the following season.
