Services - Artificial Insemination

Our Goal: A healthy foal and relief to owners from the apprehension encompassing the breeding process. While Artificial Insemination is a well established technique in the horse industry, the breeding process is imposing to many. When a mare enters LACER’s breeding program, our whole procedure is focused on helping her successfully get in foal.

  • A breeding soundness exam
  • Determination of appropriate breeding time
  • Acquiring, evaluation and insemination of semen
  • Assessment of any potential complications
These are all part of LACER’s Breeding Management Package.

Procedures

The process of artificial insemination begins by daily ultrasonic examination of the mare. In this way, we are able to determine when the mare is in estrous and predict the expected time of ovulation. At the appropriate time, semen is shipped from the pre-arranged stallion and is used to inseminate the mare.  The mare is then examined on subsequent days to guarantee ovulation takes place and to monitor the uterine health. Finally, pregnancy is diagnosed in the mare 14 days after ovulation.
